Transcript [00:01] Hello and welcome to another episode of [00:02] the Kufi Weekly. And there's a very [00:05] famous saying that those who do not [00:07] learn from the past are doomed to repeat [00:10] it. And if we look back in history, we [00:13] are given a number of events which [00:15] happened in this week which really give [00:18] us an insight into the Middle East into [00:21] the potential future and the challenges [00:23] that we are facing. Two of those are [00:26] related to the idea of peace and one of [00:29] those shows the brutality of what we are [00:31] dealing with. [00:40] Now this week marks the anniversary of [00:42] two major steps towards peace in the [00:45] Middle East. That is the Camp David [00:47] Accords where the Egyptian president [00:50] Anoir Sadat had the courage to basically [00:52] get on a plane and make peace with [00:55] Israel. Remember that Israel and Egypt [00:57] had fought multiple wars. There had been [01:00] conflict. Blood had been shed. But Anoir [01:04] Sedat made the decision that the time [01:06] for war was over and he was willing to [01:09] talk to Israel. And this was a piece [01:12] which came with a heavy price for Israel [01:14] also. Israel had fought wars against [01:16] Egypt. He had been attacked by Egypt [01:19] and during those conflicts, Israel had [01:22] been able to conquer vast swades of [01:25] Egyptian territory. The agreement which [01:28] eventually brought some semblance of [01:31] peace to the Egyp Israel border meant [01:34] that Israel had to give up land that was [01:37] four times its land mass right now. [01:41] Israel willing to make painful [01:43] concessions for the idea of peace. [01:47] Now for taking that bold step, for being [01:50] courageous enough to try and make and [01:52] indeed make peace with Israel, [01:55] Anoir Saddat was murdered. He was [01:57] murdered by members of the Egyptian [02:00] military during a parade. [02:02] And this is the cost of peace [02:05] within the Arab world. There are those [02:08] who would rather see their leaders dead [02:11] than make peace with Israel. And another [02:14] thing that happened this week, it's the [02:17] anniversary of the Abraham Accords. [02:19] Again, we saw courageous leadership in [02:21] the Middle East with the guidance of the [02:23] United States. Israel, Bahrain, the [02:26] United Arab Emirates signed an agreement [02:28] with Israel for peace recognition and [02:31] that has opened a plethora of of things, [02:34] trade and cultural exchanges and all [02:36] these things. And you've even seen [02:38] within the curriculums of these [02:40] countries, the Jew hate which was so [02:42] ingrained has been removed and [02:44] diminished. And Emiratis and Israelis, [02:46] Baharinis and Israelis are are meeting [02:48] each other. They are mixing together and [02:51] seeing the humanity in one another. And [02:54] now the Abraham Accords has of course [02:56] expanded much since the five odd years [02:59] since it was first signed. But it's [03:00] another [03:02] show of what is potentially [03:05] able to happen in the Middle East when [03:08] people work together where there is true [03:10] peace. [03:12] And the other anniversary that this week [03:15] brings the murder of Masa Amini. [03:18] Masamini was a Kurdish Iranian girl who [03:22] went to Thran and because the regime in [03:27] Iran's morality police deemed her head [03:30] covering her hijab not sufficient she [03:33] was arrested. [03:34] She never made it out of that [03:37] incarceration. She was murdered in [03:40] police captivity [03:43] simply because it was deemed that her [03:44] head was not covered sufficiently [03:46] enough. And that is what we're dealing [03:48] with the enemies. The enemies of [03:50] essentially humanity. Those who murder [03:53] their own people because they deem that [03:55] their hair is not covered sufficiently [03:57] enough. [03:59] The regime in Iran has murdered tens, [04:01] thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, [04:03] potentially millions of its own people [04:05] since the Islamic Revolution. We want a [04:08] Middle East where is a free transfer of [04:09] ideas and people where we can learn from [04:11] each other. We can see what makes us [04:14] unique, what makes us similar, and we [04:16] can live and thrive in a better region, [04:18] a peaceful Middle East, in a peaceful [04:20] world, or that that the regime in Iran [04:24] visits, [04:26] a dictatorship which is cruel, which [04:28] murders its own people who disagree, [04:30] which murders its own people who may put [04:32] up a social media post that they [04:33] disagree with. Yet sadly, we're seeing [04:37] in the streets of the United States and [04:39] all over the Western world the insidious [04:42] ideas spread by the regime in Iran being [04:45] supported. [04:47] There is data that has come out showing [04:49] that the regime in Iran manipulated the [04:53] pro Gaza protests that we saw, the [04:55] anti-Israel mobs that we saw after [04:58] October 7th. [05:00] In the digital age, sadly, it's much [05:02] easier to be manipulated than ever [05:04] before, and we are allowing a generation [05:07] to fall prey to that. This week in [05:10] history gives us things to ponder, [05:13] things to look at, and things to [05:15] remember. [05:16] And it also gives us an opportunity to [05:18] make a choice as Americans, as citizens [05:23] of the most powerful country on earth. [05:25] What direction do we want our country to [05:27] choose? took the direction that opened [05:30] up the Abraham Accords that facilitated [05:33] the Crown David Accords [05:35] or a country which sits mute while an [05:38] evil regime spreads terrorism, murder, [05:41] mayhem throughout the Middle East and [05:43] terrorizes its own people.
